Conquer the Roof of Africa

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime! This isn’t just a hike; it’s a 10-day high-altitude mission to the highest free-standing mountain on Earth. Leaving the vibrant plains of Tanzania behind, you’ll journey through five distinct climate zones, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts and glacial peaks. This is a true test of endurance and spirit, where every step upward is a step taken alongside a dedicated community of trekkers.

At a staggering 5,895m, the air is thin, but the adrenaline is high. Pushing through the final midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak is a gruelling challenge, but standing at the summit as the sun rises over the African continent is a moment of pure, cinematic triumph. This is where legends are made. Are you ready to summit the Roof of Africa?

Fundraising

In partnership with Blackstone Charity, this trek carries a powerful mission: a £2,000 fundraising target dedicated to the Street Children Campaign in Bangladesh. Every step taken toward the summit helps rescue, support, and protect vulnerable children living on the streets, providing them with a haven, education, and a lifeline to a brighter future. Climb for more than just the view; climb to provide a path out of poverty for those in desperate need.

Frequently Asked Questions

While Mount Kilimanjaro is a non-technical trek that does not require rock climbing skills, it is a significant test of physical and mental endurance. Participants should have a strong base of cardiovascular fitness, as they will be trekking for 6 to 8 days through varied terrain and extreme altitudes. It is highly recommended that trekkers begin a consistent training regime at least 4 to 6 months in advance, focusing on long-distance hill walking, leg strength, and stamina to ensure they can manage the final 1,200m ascent to the summit in thin air.

Every trekker commits to a minimum fundraising target of £2,000, which goes directly to the BlackStone Charity Street Children Campaign in Bangladesh. These funds are vital for rescuing vulnerable children from the streets and providing them with immediate medical care, nutritious food, and safe shelter. By reaching this target, participants are not just climbing a mountain; they are providing the financial foundation for a child’s education and long-term reintegration into a safe and supportive environment.

Safety is the highest priority, and the itinerary is specifically designed to allow for gradual acclimatisation. The “pole-pole” (slowly, slowly) pace set by the guides is essential for helping the body adjust to decreasing oxygen levels. The support team monitors participants daily for signs of Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS). Trekkers are encouraged to stay hydrated and maintain a positive mindset, while the presence of a supportive community of fellow MSN trekkers provides the collective encouragement needed to push through the more challenging high-altitude sections.

While the goal is for everyone to reach the Peak, the safety and well-being of every trekker are the absolute priorities. If a participant experiences severe altitude sickness or physical exhaustion that prevents them from continuing, they will be escorted down to a lower camp by a professional assistant guide.

While the experienced support team is trained to manage health concerns on the mountain, it is important to note that the costs associated with a professional medical evacuation, such as a mountain stretcher or a specialised helicopter rescue, are not included in the registration fee. For this reason, all participants are strictly required to secure comprehensive travel insurance that specifically covers high-altitude trekking up to 6,000m. This specialised insurance ensures that, should an emergency arise, the high costs of evacuation and hospital treatment in Tanzania are fully covered. The MSN team will provide guidance on recommended insurance providers during the pre-departure briefings to ensure every trekker has the correct level of protection before setting foot on the mountain.
